Join us for the final concert in our 2024 Live! At OPC Season! This concert features vocalist Azure McCall with her band: Spencer Allen on piano, Ron Belcher on bass, and Ranzel Merritt on drums. You won't want to miss out on the vibrancy of Old Oakland coupled with the intimacy of live music.
ABOUT AZURE MCCALL
Azure McCall, a multi-award-winning vocalist, is heir to Sarah Vaughn, Carmen McRae, and Ella Fiitzgerald's vocal traditions. She has traveled the world as a vocalist with many legendary jazz icons, including Ray Brown, Freddy Hubbard, Frank Morgan, and Tennyson Stephens. Dizzy Gillespie invited her to join him at what turned out to be his last, the Monterey Jazz Festival. She describes it as "an 'aw' moment in my music career." In 2008, President Barack Obama invited Azure to perform at his pre-election party, of which she said, "That's why he won." Azure gained the name "Jazz Diva" for Celebrity and Royal Caribbean cruises and has performed in more than 50 countries. Now, she's bringing her world-class talent back to Live! at OPC for a one-night-only performance at the Oakland Public Conservatory of Music. As a faculty member at the Oakland Public Conservatory of Music and the Jazz School in Berkeley, she has been instrumental in shaping the local jazz scene. Whether on stage or in front of a class of eager developing vocalists, her warmth and sense of humor fuel every interpretation.
$20 in advance, $25 at the door, kids get in free.
