San Francisco's Litquake literary festival co-hosts an evening with Margaret Wilkerson Sexton, the bestselling author of The Revisioners and A Kind of Freedom.
She joins Forum host Mina Kim to discuss her new novel On the Rooftop about a mother whose dream of musical stardom for her daughters collides with their own ambition--set against the backdrop of San Francisco's gentrifying Fillmore neighborhood in the 1950s.
Featuring live songs from the era by San Francisco legendary jazz and blues vocalist Kim Nalley.

Margaret Wilkerson Sexton's The Revisioners won an NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Literary Work and was a national bestseller as well as a New York Times Notable Book of the Year. Her debut novel, A Kind of Freedom, was long-listed for the National Book Award. She lives in Oakland with her family.
Kim Nalley was discovered by Michael Tilson Thomas and has played jazz clubs and festivals all over the world, performed as an actress and written a stage play. She also holds a Ph.D in History from UC Berkeley and is a published scholar of jazz history. She has collaborated with innumerable jazz legends, and lent her voice to philanthropic ventures. Her latest album is Lullabies for My Daughters.
