San Francisco Bay Area bassist, composer and bandleader Lisa Mezzacappa premieres a new suite for jazz sextet, Cosmicomics 2018, inspired by Italo Calvino's Cosmicomics stories about the origins of the universe and the invisible forces at work in the cosmos. Mezzacappa is joined by her ensemble, the Lisa Mezzacappa Six, which features tenor saxophonist Aaron Bennett, guitarist John Finkbeiner, vibraphonist Mark Clifford, electronic musician, Tim Perkis, and drummer Jordan Glenn.
The music will be premiered in two concerts: on Friday, November 2 at the CA Jazz Conservatory in Berkeley; and on Saturday, November 3 at Bird & Beckett Books in San Francisco.
Mezzacappa has been called "one of the most imaginative figures on the Bay Area creative jazz scene" by The Mercury News and "a Bay Area treasure" by KQED. She has been an active part of California's vibrant music community for more than 15 years, and is a consistent presence in the "Rising Star Bassist" category of the annual Downbeat jazz critic's poll.
