Liquid Hymn will showcase multi-layered ink paintings by Oakland-based artist J.S.Weis. Weis composes exquisite mixed-media pieces atop layers of intricately stacked paper. The result is a chaotic symphony of colors, textures, and organic patterns.
Because of Weis' fine, illustrative details, immaculate framing and beautiful subject matter, we are proud to host his first solo exhibition as an up-and-coming artist. His new collection is best described by SF Weekly: "Animals emerge from a flotilla of colorful matter that resembles the earth or its atmosphere but is hard to pinpoint. It's all very mysterious and all very intoxicating."
For Weis, Liquid Hymn is his way of “communing with nature’s vitality.” His drawings touch upon an innately human sense of marvel at the bounty of nature. He hopes to encourage viewers to examine the health and vitality of nature in relationship with our own well being.
