Join us for dancing to live, swinging jazz music at the Bayview Opera House! All are welcome!
Lindy Hop is the original form of Swing dancing, created by African American youth in Harlem, NY in the late 1920s. The dance spread and became popular through the 1930s and into the 1940s - being seen in movies and danced across the country. Today, you can find Lindy Hop in most major cities across the globe!
As a fundraiser for Old Skool Cafe, we are thrilled to bring Lindy Hop to the Bayview Opera House and to the community of the Bayview/Hunters Point neighborhood with live music from the San Francisco-based Swing band, The Hot Baked Goods. Two young Lindy Hop dancers, Alexis Davila and Cyle Dixon Jr. from Cleveland, OH will be here to teach a youth workshop earlier in the day as well as a 30-minute intro class open to all-ages at 2:30pm.
The youth workshop will be free and is for those age 13-22 years old. If interested, please email iris@920special. com
Additionally, Cyle and Alexis will be sharing their stories as to how Lindy Hop has made such a positive impact on their lives and they'll perform a routine from the International Lindy Hop Championships.
