Linda Tillery and Oaktown Funk

SEE EVENT DETAILS
LINDA TILLERY AND OAKTOWN FUNK

Linda Tillery - Vocals
Mike Clark - Drums
Wil Blades - Hammond Organ
Ray Obiedo - Guitar
Melecio Magdaluyo - Sax

Oaktown funk is a stellar group of East Bay musicians who are dedicated to the groove and beyond. This band is a virtual who’s who of musical virtuosity. Spearheaded by veteran vocalist Linda Tillery and drumming phenom Mike Clark (Headhunters), we guarantee there will be no feet left untapped! Guitarist Ray Obiedo has established himself as a true groove master and his credits as a composer and sideman are as solid as any player around these parts. Will Bernard handles the B3 in the tradition of Groove Holmes and Jimmy Smith; he can lull you into a blissful state on a soulful ballad or groove you into a shout on a shuffle. Melecio Magdaluyo can play it all; he can get funky like Maceo and swing like Gene Ammons or Coleman Hawkins. This is a band you don’t want to miss!

Linda Tillery’s shimmering voice has powered many of the Bay Area’s most popular bands over the past four decades. A central figure in the women’s music movement in the 1970s and 80s, she was also a founding member of Bobby McFerrin’s vocal ensemble Voicestra, and currently leads the Cultural Heritage Choir, performing African American roots music. “If I was the heart of Voicestra,” says Bobby McFerrin, “Linda was the soul.”

Join us for a spectacular evening of groove and funk music that's guaranteed to move your feet, fill your heart, and touch your soul.
