The Likeness and Legacy Symposium features a series of short presentations followed by questions from the audience as panelists explore the differences between portraiture in Korea and in other East Asian countries. Kyungku Lee will kick off the afternoon by focusing on the paintings of meritorious officials that form the core of the exhibition. Art historian Soomi Lee will add context by discussing Joseon dynasty portraiture more broadly and Chi-sun Park will offer insights into the mounting and conservation of portrait paintings from that era. The afternoon concludes with a presentation by Robyn Asleson on contemporary approaches to depicting the human visage by artists Young June Lew, Do Ho Suh and Yun Suknam.
