Light+Shadow, A Conversation with Bryant Austin

SEE EVENT DETAILS
Join photographer Bryan Austin  and curator Anne Veh for a conversation about Light + Shadow and learn how a daily practice of playing with light has supported a personal journey of surrender and transformation. With humility and reverence, Bryant transports the viewer into a mystical realm whether in the ocean or on land, to experience the wonder of the cosmos and the beauty of the human experience.
"A shadow reminds us of the nothingness that is most of the universe. It is the light fall from our sun that beautifully insulates us from this reality. When Earth turns to face away from the sun, we turn to the shadow that is the night sky. During the day, shadows bring me into the present moment, gently reminding me of the nothingness that waits for all of us including our star". —Bryant  Austin
The evening will include a moderated conversation with a visual presentation followed by a Q+A and circle of sharing.
Donation of $10-15 Suggested
Bryant Austin is a full-time, self-taught photographer known for his life size portraits of whales that serve as a critical archive for future generations. Whether it is his work with whales or his most recent work with the sun, his images connect us to the infinite nature of the cosmos. Living on a nature preserve in Northern California, his wisdom lead him away from an unsustainable practice with the whales to see the gift of a daily practice right outside his door—a playful practice of following the sun’s trajectory as it paints light on hundred year live oaks to his chosen cathedral of Yosemite. His journey is one of Light and Shadow, mirrored in his own journey of transformation.
