There is something terrifying about the way Vancouver, Canada's Lie approaches punk rock. Really it's more of an '80s post-punk trio, though not quite as strange as some of those old bands. It's just really dark and really scary. And there is a lot of energy in those songs. They're angry-as any good punk band should be-but the lead singer just sounds haunted, possessed even. Her voice is heavily distorted. With each line she belts out, it sounds like her vocal chords are about to burst in flames. In other words, Lie rock pretty damn hard. It's powerful, consuming, but stripped down to the essence. (Aaron Carnes)
