Join us for our Salon Series, where Letterform Archive staff invite you to experience materials related to a specific topic of interest to the Collection.
This month, we share work by Ladislav Sutnar (1897-1976), a Czech designer and pioneer of information graphics. His contributions to modern systems of typography and iconography represent a paradigm shift in the field visual language; Sutnar had a penchant for deconstructing large quantities of convoluted data to identify the most effective means of organization, then reconstructing the information to read as quickly and clearly as possible. Letterform Archive's holdings of Sutnar include the 1950s Bell System pamphlet containing the first documented use of parentheses to denote area code, among other pieces of rare ephemera.
Doors at 6:00pm. Presentation begins promptly at 6:30pm.
