Explore imagined ecologies in Let Us Speak Frog, an experimental music and multi-media performance by Bay Area electronic synthesizer duo Red Culebra at McEvoy Foundation for the Arts. Tickets are on sale now from $12-15.
Responding to the Holocene extinction, the ongoing extinction event caused by human activity, Red Culebra uses generative composition to speak non-human languages and transform into flying snakes. Inspired by Indigenous mythologies and storytelling traditions, they enter alternative realms of space and time as they visit frogs throughout the world and attempt to apologize for human destruction. The performance also features live dance choreographed by Gerald Casel and interactive animation by Christoph Steger.
Let Us Speak Frog is presented in conjunction with MYR, an exhibition at McEvoy Arts exploring deep time and human existence on Earth. The artworks on view bring science and speculation together to explore how deeper visions of space and time relate to contemporary existential anxieties, particularly the imminent climate emergency. Admission to exhibitions at McEvoy Arts is free.
