Four Barrel Coffee is pleased to present Let My People LEGO! by Elbe Spurling. Elbe Spurling is an American transgender artist and author best known for The Brick Bible book series (published under her birth name Brendan Powell Smith), which is an ongoing effort to illustrate the entire Bible with LEGO building blocks. Although not religious, Spurling has studied the Bible, ancient Christianity, and Judaism, and is motivated by the belief that all people, whether believers or not, are better off knowing the content of the scriptures. Her unique storytelling and illustrating style has been praised for its meticulous attention to detail and its ability to walk a fine line between humor and poignancy. This collection of prints includes some of Elbe’s most iconic works from The Brick Bible as well as two recent history projects titled Assassination! and Revolution! For the first time ever, John F. Kennedy, George Washington, Jesus, Moses, and more will together grace the walls of Four Barrel Coffee, in full color and with many stories to tell. Join us on Friday, February 24th from 6-8pm for the opening reception of this exhibition of LEGO work. Drinks will be served and the artist will be in attendance.

Elbe lives and works in San Francisco, California. Her art has been featured in publications including Time, People, Rolling Stone, and Entertainment Weekly. She also creates art pop music under the artist name ?lbe and released her debut LP g?tting th?re in fall 2016. Spurling's next major LEGO-illustration project will be The Brick Book of Mormon, in which she plans to present the history and teachings of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Four Barrel is a cafe and roastery that has been supporting artists with exhibitions since 2008. This exhibition is free and open to the public.
