Leonora Carrington Stories at Catharine Clark Gallery

SEE EVENT DETAILS
Catharine Clark Gallery presents an evening of stories by Leonora Carrington (1917-2011). Similar to the dream-like scenes depictions in her works on paper in the gallery’s current exhibit, Carrington's stories also blur the boundaries between fiction and reality.
In the spirit of Carrington's imagery and art historical position as a surrealist, the readers will incorporate performative elements into their readings. The readers are Helen Shumaker, Monique Jenkinson, and Indira Allegra.
Stories will be read campfire style, so please bring your own pillows and blankets (chairs will also be provided).
Join us in your most fantastical and fanciful attire on Friday, August 3, from 7 to 9pm.
A BOX BLUR event in conjunction with the group exhibition We Tell Ourselves Stories... In Order to Live.
                                                                         _______
We Tell Ourselves Stories... In Order to Live and the attendant programming is curated by Anton Stuebner and on view through September 1. Work included in the exhibit is by Sophie Calle, Lenka Clayton, Stephanie Syjuco, Edgar Martins, Leonora Carrington, Patrick Staff and Katherine Vetne. A solo presentation of Timothy Cummings’ paintings is also on view in our back room. Two commissioned, large-scale drawings by Sandow Birk and the newest gravure in the "Imaginary Monuments" series are also presented in the gallery’s viewing room.
