Lecture: The Nature Study Movement in Pacific Grove

Don Kohrs, a leading researcher of the history of the Pacific Coast Assembly of the Chautauqua Literary and Science Circle, will share his recent findings associated with summer gatherings of the Chautauqua Assemblies in Pacific Grove and the strong emphasis the founders of the assembly placed on the instruction of the natural sciences, romantic literature, and the arts. He will also discuss the organizing of Chautauqua Circles throughout the State of California, and how these Chautauqua reading circles seeded the establishing of the California Federation of Women's Club.
