Lecture: Passenger Pigeons - Back from Extinction?

Join the Pacific Grove Museum of Natural History as they present a lecture with Ben Novak entitled, "Passenger Pigeons - Back from Extinction?" A graduate student at McMaster University and U.C. Santa Cruz, Ben Novak has joined the paleogenomics lab of Beth Shapiro where he is refining the sequencing of passenger pigeon DNA and comparing it with the DNA of the extinct bird's closest relative, the band-tailed pigeon. This lecture addresses misconceptions and misunderstandings of passenger pigeon natural history, and shed light on passenger pigeons can be brought back from extinction.
