Le Mystere des Voix Bulgares

SEE EVENT DETAILS
Called ?breathtaking in its sublime beauty? by the Los Angeles Times, the GRAMMY-winning, 23-member Bulgarian women?s choir has dazzled audiences around the globe with their mysterious, otherworldly harmonies since 1952. Now named for the groundbreaking 1975 recording produced by eminent ethnomusicologist Marcel Cellier that featured them, the former Bulgarian State Television Female Vocal Choir brings dramatic interpretations of the folk music of their homeland, marked by slippery melodies, evocative, complex sonorities and unusual time signatures. They have presented over 1200 concerts since their inception and made fans throughout the music world including Bobby McFerrin, Paul Simon, Linda Ronstadt, and Kate Bush. A part of our Sacred Space series for over twenty years, the group returns to Grace Cathedral and its natural seven-second reverberation for the first time since 2008, presenting an unforgettable evening of traditional Bulgarian song that represents a perfect marriage of artist and setting.
