Laurie Lewis and Tom Rozum, Blame Sally, Thompsonia, Jenner Fox - River of Song - A Musical Celebration of California's Life-Gi

SEE EVENT DETAILS

Laurie Lewis

Not only has the International Bluegrass Music Association twice named Laurie the Female Vocalist of the Year – not only did she win a Grammy for her contribution to True Life Blues: the Songs of Bill Monroe – but she also graduated from Berkeley High. Since graduation, she’s recorded more than 20 albums – with the Good Ol’ Persons, Grant Street, Kathy Kallick, and her current band Laurie Lewis & the Right Hands, as well as several solo projects – and is now working with many talented new artists, helping them find their way in the recording business.

Tom Rozum

Northern California-based American bluegrass mandolinist and singer. Born January 21, 1951. Best known for his long-time collaboration with partner Laurie Lewis. A native New Englander, Tom first joined forces with Laurie in 1986 as an original member of Grant Street, and may well be the rightest of all the Right Hands. He and Laurie collaborated on a beautiful, Grammy-nominated album of duets, The Oak and the Laurel, and he also has released a wonderful solo album, Jubilee, recorded with an all-star cast of musicians including Laurie, Mike Marshall, Herb Pederson, and Darol Anger.

Thompsonia

Thompsonia combines Eric & Suzy Thompson’s deep devotion to southern roots music with daughter Allegra’s fresh perspective, creating feel-good music that richochets between the rowdy and the sentimental, with an abundance of groove and a bit of a quirky edge. They are celebrating the release of their second CD, “Nothing But Rain”, an old-time romp ranging from epic ballads to red-hot ragtime to topical songs of the Depression (all too apt for 2018!) to blues harmonies. Suzy and Allegra’s genetically-matched vocals (dubbed “The Everly Sisters sound” by Geoff Muldaur) are featured, along with stellar lead playing from Eric on mandolin and guitar and Suzy’s fiery fiddling. In addition to the Cajun, blues and old-time music for which Eric and Suzy have long been acclaimed, the trio also performs witty originals alongside obscurities in styles ranging from rockabilly to hokum to Americana.

“Thompsonia makes the listener feel like the guest of honor at a party!”
Joe Newberry

“Thompsonia sounds like Hazel and Alice had joined forces with Memphis Minnie and recorded with Sam Phillips at Sun Studio.”
Dave Alvin

"effortless-sounding instrumental virtuosity, buoyant ensemble playing, soulful singing, and a sense of humor desperately needed in these grim times”
Derk Richardson, Peghead Nation

"A beautiful and colorful trip through the Thompsons' vast musical world, with the sense of joy and humor that always bubbles under everything they play!"
Bruce Molsky

Jenner Fox

“Jenner combines the lyricism of Joni Mitchel and the commentary of Neil Young to represent the next generation of singer songwriters.” - Grammy nominated producer and engineer Cookie Marenco

“Music that made me like me more and want to find the heart of it when I am not.” - Tara Prokop

Jenner is a singer and songwriter on the river and the road. His musical delivery ranges from a soft mandolin melody to full blown passion at its peak, with words that will make you laugh and cry, and songs you'll want to take home. Jenner spends part of his time writing, touring, and recording, and the other part playing his music while working as a river guide in the US, Canada, and Chilean Patagonia. He draws his influence from river canyons, urban communities, John Prine, Josh Ritter, and the people, roads, and stories in between.
