Laura Dreyer & The Manhattan/Rio Connection features saxophonist, flutist, and composer Laura Dreyer performing original Brazilian Jazz compositions and arrangements of Brazilian standards. The band showcases an ensemble of top Brazilian Jazz artists that include legendary Grammy® nominated pianist Marcos Silva, drummer Dillon Vado, bassist Scott Thompson and percussionist Ami Molinelli. Laura’s most recent CD "Vida. Arte. Amor." was released on the Mayimba Jazz label and was recorded in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Laura Dreyer & The Manhattan/Rio Connection synthesizes catchy, lyrical melodies with Jazz and Brazilian rhythms, resulting in a colorful palette of sound with a strong, rhythmic twist.
Audiences have heard Laura in the bands of such diverse artists as Dr. Billy Taylor, Dom Salvador, Helcio Milito, Portinho, Bossa PDX, Walter Bishop Jr., Mel Lewis, Robert Palmer, Nnenna Freelon, saxophonist/author James McBride, “The Diva Jazz Orchestra, and many others. Laura attended The Berklee College of Music and has a Bachelor of Arts degree from SUNY Empire State College. Additionally, she has studied with saxophonists Joe Henderson and Joe Lovano, pianist Dennis Kaufman, and composers Lyle Mays and Jim McNeely.
