Lamp - Future Behind Me Tour North America 2024

SEE EVENT DETAILS
Lamp officially formed when Taiyo Someya and Yusuke Nagai, who had met in high school, were introduced to Kaori Sakakibara. At the start, Someya worked on all compositions largely alone, before showing them to Nagai and Sakakibara to practice and record. After doing this for some time, they eventually got wind of an event at a bar called the Magnacy in Nishi-Abazu, an all night event at a bar sponsored by a Shibuya record shop. They played at this event for some time, playing their own songs as well as covers, before eventually producing a four song demo inluding Amaashi Hayaku, Utakata Kitan, and Hatachi No Koi that they sent to multiple record companies in hopes of getting an offer.

The band continued to send out this demo, but only got vague offers that fell through. Eventually, a DJ friend of Someya, Sekine, was able to get the members a meeting with Mr. Sakuma, a representative from Motel Bleu, who they gave a newer 10 song demo. He soon sent a very brief email saying he wanted to talk, and after negotiating a deal, they began to work on their first album in September of 2002, Soyokaze Apartment Room 201.
