There is almost nothing more achingly lonely than the sound of Lady Lazarus' slow keyboard ballads, which serve as a sort of platform to unleash her most honest, primitive ideas. The melodies are basic, but she drenches the whole thing in so much reverb they have a profound other-worldly quality about them, like this is what it would sound like to listen to the last person on Earth playing music on their last night alive. It's just plain haunting. Originally from San Jose, Lady Lazarus made the trek to L.A. a few years ago, and has since gotten much deserved attention from music blogs, Pitchfork chief amongst them who have raved about both of her albums.
