Organizers announce the 1st Annual Labor of Love Ska and Reggae Music Festival.
The concert features independent/local ska and reggae bands from across the greater San Francisco bay area - from Sacramento to Santa Cruz and beyond - and is intended to showcase and celebrate working musicians from the SF Bay Area ska/reggae music scene.
"The reality for most independent/local bands is that music-making and performing is a Labor of Love - not a lucrative, money-making endeavor" says festival co-organizer and member of the band Burnt, Danny Franco. "(W)e wanted to host a music festival that would celebrate local working ska and reggae bands, and the effort they put forth to spread music and culture, which is often paid for out of their own pockets. It makes sense to do this on the US holiday that celebrates the Labor Movement" Franco said.
Labor of Love Ska and Reggae Music Festival will be held outdoors on the patio of El Rio, a bar/music venue in the Mission District of San Francisco known for supporting independent, local, progressive and LGBTQIA-friendly events. Music begins at 2pm and ends at 8pm. Food will be on-sale at the event from a local catering start-up.
