Local artist Kyle Pellet created some cool album covers and flyers for punk bands Shinobu and Lemon Party, and rappers Antwon and Fat Tony. His style is cartoonish, surreal and subtly disturbing. For instance, the cover for Lemon Party's Mannish Water finds a band of animal-monster blobs putting on a show, to the apparent fright of tiny human heads. He presents his new exhibit "Spooky Action" at Empire Seven Studios (his second there) where he'll explore memory, relationships and energy in 50 gouache paintings. The vibrant, velvety quality of gouache (an opaque type of watercolor) emphasizes the simple bizarreness of Pellet's work. (Aaron Carnes)
