THIS EVENT HAS ENDED
See the classical music superstars of tomorrow today as they compete over two days for cash prizes and performance contracts in one of the most anticipated and exciting music competitions. At this year's Klein International String Competition seven outstanding young string players aged 15-23 will perform at Hume Hall, San Francisco Conservatory of Music before a live audience. Both days will be livestreamed on the Violin Channel.

The SEMIFINALS round (FREE) takes place 10AM-4PM Sat 6/4. Each of the seven competitors performs a dynamic 25-min program, including solo Bach, premieres the commissioned work by Gloria Justen, and a movement from a major concerto. Repertoire will include beloved movements from Bartok, Hadyn, Still, Clarke, Sibelius, Tchaikovsky, Paganini, Walton, Debussy, Shostakovich, Faure and Ravel.

The FINALS (YOUTH FREE) round takes place 3-5PM Sun 6/5. Three to four finalists selected by the jury from the previous day's competition each perform a powerful 35-min program, including a sonata movement, and more movements from their chosen major concerto. Top prizes will then be awarded.

Be a part of the audience for NPR's radio program From the Top, who will be in residence recording a documentary-style program to air in Fall 2022. From the Top co-hosts Peter Dugan and Tessa Lark will co-emcee with the Klein's Artistic Director Mitchell Sardou Klein.

The young players showcase the exceptional talent from top teachers and conservatories in North America: Andromeda Kepecs, violin; Gaeun Kim, cello; Jacques Forestier, violin; Hayoung Choi, violin; Emily Hwang, viola; Han Lee, cello; and Jaewon Wee, violin.

Celebrating 37 years of helping the world's top young string musicians gain prominence in the competitive world of classical music, the Irving M. Klein International String Competition, produced by the California Music Center, is one of the most beloved and prestigious music competitions in the world.

Admission with proof of vax and masked.
