Kim Nalley is a beloved jazz and blues vocalist; Tammy Hall is a first call pianist with 25 albums to her credit as a bandleader and a supporting player; both are San Francisco Bay Area treasures. They'll join us (safely) from Kim's home to present this live-streamed concert on Facebook Live and YouTube.
Awarded Most Influential African American in the Bay Area in 2005 and Best Jazz Group in 2013, vocalist Kim Nalley is already being called "legendary" and a "San Francisco institution." She was discovered by Michael Tilson Thomas, who promptly asked her to sing with the San Francisco Symphony. Since then, she has become a prolific recording artist and has toured the world, gracing concert halls from Moscow to Lincoln Center and festivals from Umbria Jazz to Monterey Jazz garnering effusive international press, awards and ranking high on the Jazz charts and Gavin Report for her many albums.
Tammy Hall began seriously playing the piano when her grandmothers pooled their resources to furnish her with private lessons from age 8 to 18. When a visit to Brussels turned into a 2 year stay, Tammy co-founded the quintet Touche Différente (Different Touch), performing in Brussels, Antwerp, France, Holland, Ibiza and at the North Sea Jazz Festival. Since returning to the Bay Area, Tammy has worked with artists as diverse as Holly Near, Nicolas Bearde, Ernestine Anderson, Queen Esther Marrow, Connie Champagne and Laurie Anderson. She has performed at venues in the US, Japan, Europe and Mexico, including the Kennedy Center, Jazz At Lincoln Center, Carnegie Hall, Monterey Jazz Festival, SFJAZZ Center and Yoshi's.
Live From Home is an experimental series of live-streamed concerts presented by San Jose Jazz in response to the quarantines sweeping the world due to the COVID-19 crisis. Look for these 30-40 minute live streams every Monday and Thursday until further notice, when we'll give you the opportunity to financially support artists during this difficult time.
