National recording artist Kelley James will return to Brick & Mortar Music Hall on Sunday, September 8. The venue is located at 1710 Mission Street in San Francisco, Calif. Doors open at 7 p.m. and the show will begin at 8 p.m.
Fellow Bay Area native Sam Johnson will be joining James for the evening as direct support. Johnson’s original songs have been used in programs on the MTV, Fox, and Bravo networks, and his cover of “In the Midnight Hour” was selected as the theme for Macy’s Black Friday advertising campaign two years in a row. Written in the vein of Jack Johnson and Jason Mraz, Johnson’s tunes are self-described as “quintessentially California.”
Eschewing the traditional path of record labels, James has built his career on the road playing over 1,000 shows in the past five years. As the creator of “The Sorority and Fraternity Tour” he has played at colleges nationwide and partnered with Oakley and Muscle Milk to sponsor the tour. He has also shared the stage with national acts such as Sara Bareilles, Mike Posner, Kate Voegele, O.A.R., and Joshua Radin. In 2012, he had a weeklong residency at The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas followed by a headlining tour for Patagonia in Australia. He has sold out shows at The Troubadour, the Roxy and The Key Club in Los Angeles and continues to excel in an ever-evolving music market.
James returns to Brick & Mortar nearly a year after his last performance at the venue in the summer of 2012. He was joined by Major League Baseball All-Star Barry Zito for “A Night For the Troops,” a special benefit concert performed in conjunction with Zito’s Strikeout For the Troops charity organization. The two shared the stage for a unique performance together, showcasing Zito’s musical talents alongside James’ signature guitar-playing and freestyle rhymes.
