KATIE KUFFEL Molly Bolten, Socorra

SEE EVENT DETAILS
Katie Kuffel is a tongue-in-cheek, Seattle-based musician smashing the piano in a manner that's not quite blues, not quite folk, and not quite like anything you've heard before. With songwriting that is both innovative and thoughtful, she explores community, feminism, and her personal experiences as an advocate against sexism and violence through a contemporary sound that supports turbulent, poetic lyrics.

Katie began songwriting at an early age when her family inherited an old, upright piano (now housed in her Seattle apartment). She has since expanded to incorporate vocal looping and ukulele in her music. Katie stands by her belief that an artist is only as successful as their community, and strives to collaborate, support, and create opportunities for other artists and musicians.

Molly Bolten is a musician, songwriter and audio engineer from San Francisco.

A musician since early childhood, she started writing songs when she was a teenager. It should be noted that she also wrote many short one-hand piano pieces starting around age 6, one of which was called “Egyptoin Dance” (not a typo). She learned to groove in college in New Jersey, where she studied music composition and creative writing. During that time, she sang in a sort-of-afrobeat band, Sensemaya Afrobeat All-Stars, and played guitar in a hip hop/soul/jazz outfit, Gorilla Gorilla. In 2013, she formed a super-friend-band out of those two groups and made the Night Kitchen Experiment, the band on her 2014 album All Seats Provide Equal Viewing of the Universe.

In 2015, she released her EP Home Alone.

These days the Bay Area native lives in San Francisco, performing under her name and playing guitar in various other projects. She can often be found in one of three locations: her apartment, the Korean spa or the diner near her apartment.

Socorra is a singer-songwriter from the San Jose, California. She is a drummer turned guitar player, always trying to find a groove on the guitar beyond the melody. Socorra is a Returned Peace Corps Volunteer from Morocco (2010-2012) where she worked on environmental projects and on using music as a way of connecting and building relationships with her community. In November 2015 she was invited back to Morocco for a two week tour consisting of 8 shows all around the country. Her love of community and desire to lift the community up, has made her an active member of the San Jose music scene and in January 2017 with the help of the community, she released her EP, Break.
