KATIE DAY, Scott Padden and the Evangelicals, Levi Parham

Katie Day

After years of performing and recording as a multi-instrumentalist/background vocalist for various bands across the country, Midwest native Katie Day packed up her life (mostly instruments & Chicago Bears merch) to head west. It was there that a series of heartbreaks, heartbreakings, financial crises, and other misfortunes led her to find her voice, put her foot down, and enter the studio to record her debut solo EP, “Burn It to the Ground”. The opening line off Burn It, “Back when we were young, and freedom was the West Coast, and we were gonna take what’s ours and not let go..” is indicative of the overarching theme of the album. It’s a story of dream maintenance, of a refusal to fold. The general vibe of Burn It is one of lightheartedness, an ethereal ode to the passion and ideals of youth, a laugh in the face of a harsh and unforgiving adult world. Deemed as “dreamy indie pop” and likened to Washed Out, Tame Impala, and M83, Burn It was written (with the exception of The Zombies cover, “Time of the Season”), co-produced, and performed almost exclusively by Day. With such a diverse range of talents and a new EP due out in May of 2015, Katie Day is surely an artist to keep your eyes on.

Scott Padden and the Evangelicals

Scott Padden is no stranger to the road—he’s spent the last three years touring the country as a bassist with folk-Americana band, Goodnight, Texas—but that hasn’t stopped him from putting down musical roots in the Bay Area. After relocating here in 2011 to perform as an orchestral bassist, he found his career taking a left turn when he became a regular musician at Phil Lesh's Terrapin Crossroads in San Rafael shortly after the venue opened. It was there that he steadily honed his skills as a bassist, guitarist, drummer, vocalist, and keyboardist, culminating with a world tour in 2014 on keys with Lesh and the Terrapin Family Band. Since then, Padden has focused his attention on Goodnight, Texas, logging nearly 30,000 miles on the road in 2015 alone. During a hiatus from touring this past winter, Padden began crafting his own brand of music, and eventually christened his solo project, The Evangelicals. His strongest influences are obvious (Ryan Adams instantly comes to mind), but the years of listening to Paul Westerberg, Big Star, and the Rolling Stones also shine through his music. The band debuted in late January as a part of Fred Torphy's Tuesday's Spirits residency at Doc's Lab, and their first record is due out later this year.

Levi Parham

Americana singer/songwriter Levi Parham has been called "An Okie version of Ray LaMontagne" (KC Star) with his "soulful, tender and gritty voice" (Bluegrass Situation). Parham's songs are filled with catchy hooks and easy rolling rhythms, you'll surely be humming his tunes long after the show is over.
