Kathryn Roszak's DANSE LUMIÈRE performing a Modern "Schubertiade"

SEE EVENT DETAILS
at Salle Pianos and Events (see times)
Kathryn Roszak's Danse Lumière performs a present day "Schubertiade," an updated version of a salon originated by Schubert in his time involving music, dance, and poetry. Danse Lumière is acclaimed for combining dance with literature, and takes inspiration from the poem "Schubertiana" by Nobel Prize-winning poet Tomas Tranströmer.
The group will be bolstered by pianists Michael Seth Orland and Karen Rosenak.

"The beautifully cadenced "Schubertiania" traces the perils of life as the dancers brilliantly tight-rope across the stage."-SANDRA GILBERT, author "Madwoman in the Attic," review for POETRY FLASH

"Kathryn Roszak is an artist whose work defies the boundaries of a single genre...and torques preconceived notions into transportive beauty." LOU FANCHER, SAN JOSE MERCURY NEWS

Kathryn Roszak’s Danse Lumière is acclaimed for adapting literature for the stage, having collaborated with Maxine Hong Kingston and Gary Snyder. Danse Lumière was selected as one of the top ten performances of 2011 in the San Francisco Bay Guardian for their performance of “Pensive Spring” presented by Cal Performances at the Fall Free For All.
Danse Lumière has performed their original productions combining dance with drama in the Bay Area at the Herbst Theater, Grace Cathedral, the Asian Art Museum, and the University of San Francisco. Nationally, the company has performed at The Smithsonian Institution, Washington, D.C., La MaMa E.T.C., New York, and at the Copenhagen Cultural Festival, Denmark. Artistic Director Kathryn Roszak trained at San Francisco Ballet and the American Conservatory Theater, dancing as a soloist with the San Francisco Opera Ballet and acting with the Berkeley Repertory Theater. In addition to choreographing for her own company, Roszak has choreographed for San Francisco Opera and the American Conservatory Theater.
