Not only was Kafana Balkan the first ongoing Balkan dance party in San Francisco, it's also the Bay Area’s biggest Balkan music party masterminded by DJ Željko Petkovi?. Željko hails from the Balkans, Serbia by way of Frankfurt and now resides in San Francisco. We here in San Francisco have the great benefit of enjoying his discriminating taste and seemingly endless collection of Balkan music. DJ Željko clearly loves what he does and he is a crowd pleaser, concocting a genuine brew of highly danceable Balkan Brass. Željko lovingly promotes Balkan music and culture by producing Kafana Balkan roughly four times a year. KB event has won "The Best of" both Bay Guardian and SF Weekly weekly newspapers.

Trumpeter/composer FRANK LONDON is a member of the GRAMMY-winning Klezmatics. This multifaceted musician’s resume runs deep: album producer for Macedonian Roma legend Esma Redžepova, music director for David Byrne and Robert Wilson’s the Knee Plays, and performer with such acts as John Zorn, LL Cool J, Mel Torme, Lester Bowie’s Brass Fantasy, LaMonte Young, They Might Be Giants, David Byrne, Jane Siberry, Ben Folds 5, Mark Ribot, Maurice El Medioni and Gal Costa. Frank London has been featured on over 100 cds; his own include Invocations (cantorial music); Frank London’s Klezmer Brass Allstars; Nigunim and The Zmiros Project (Jewish mystical songs); The Debt (film and theater music); The Shekhina Big Band; soundtracks to the Shvitz and Divahn; and Hasidic New Wave (Jewish avant garde).

With 14 musicians sharing the stage, Inspector Gadje is an acoustic dance machine that makes the party move! A "... About the presenters: Kafana Balkan was the first ongoing Balkan dance party in San Francisco and is the only one of its kind organized by DJ Željko Petkovi? in the Bay Area. DJ Željko has discriminating taste, a seemingly endless collection of great Balkan albums, and love and joy for his music, a crowd-pleasing, danceable Balkan brass sound. Since February 2015, he’s joined by Marco Peris Coppola, Creative Co Strategist and Co Booker, who is helping Kafana Balkan grow.

Little Egypt, a San Francisco-based dance theater company founded by Jill Parker, specializes in inventing and interpreting sensuous and intoxicating women’s dances from Egypt and Morocco to the Balkans. Their evocative work is inspired by belly dance reinterpreted through the creative artistic lens of modern tribal fusion belly dance via Jill Parker's format.
There will be Rakija -delectible Serbian plum brandy. Warning: :drink at your own risk:!
