Julian Lage Quartet with John Medeski, Jorge Roeder, and Kenny Wollesen
Jazz guitarist Julian Lage signed with Blue Note Records in 2021, another milestone in a career that began with the documentary Jules at Eight and led to a performance at the Grammy Awards at age 12. For his latest album, Scenes From Above, Lage assembled a quartet with bassist Jorge Roeder, drummer Kenny Wollesen, and the vaunted multi-keyboardist John Medeski. Now touring together, the musicians move fluidly through their set, balancing structure and restraint. "Julian really thinks about things [and] has a lot of intention," says Medeski. "It's a beautiful combination of caring about the concept ... and of being free and in the moment."
