SEE EVENT DETAILS
GRADUATE LECTURE SERIESJuan Carlos Alom: Fotografía: Una Experiencia Personal
About The Work"The art of creating and interpreting images is akin to translating my spirit. My camera is the compass that guides me and I am grateful to it. Everywhere I have lived, I have delivered myself to light, shadows and to those details that, however minimal they may seem, have made me tremble and convert them into images.”
BiographyJuan Carlos Alom was born in Cuba in 1964 and resides between Havana and New York City. He is a filmmaker and photographer who has exhibited throughout Cuba, North and South America, Europe, and South Africa. Starting his career as a photojournalist in 1990s Cuba, Juan Carlos Alom developed an artistic vision informed by the need for spontaneity demanded by that period of crisis. Alom’s works are part of prestigious collections, including the IVAM - Institut Valencià d'Art Modern, Valencia, Spain; Ludwig Forum for International Art, Aachen, Germany; Los Angeles County Museum of Art; and the Walker Art Center, among others.
