Josquin des Prez (and friends): Songs and Instrumental Music

SEE EVENT DETAILS
Barefoot Chamber Concerts ("an enterprise noted for both its quality and informality" - San Francisco Classical Voice) presents really good music in the right acoustic and without the formality of most classical music events.

This year marks 500 years since the death of Josquin Des Prez, aka Jossie LeBloitte, aka Josquinius Pratensis (the list of aka's goes on and on). Andrew Canepa, Peter Hallifax, Julie Jeffrey, Phoebe Jevtovic Rosquist, and Shira Kammen combine in a program of instrumental and vocal masterpieces by the most famous of all Early Renaissance composers.

Sometimes there is a good reason why composers are famous. Josquin became a household word in his own time, and has remained so ever since, simply on the beauty of his prodigious output of music. This year he even made it into The New Yorker. As a result, many people who never heard much about him before are now going around asking their musician or music nerd friends "What's up with this Josquin?" To which, to save you the bother of saying "he's a really good composer" you can just direct them to this concert of his lovely vocal and instrumental music. And to recordings or performances of his twenty mass settings, sixty motets and over fifty other secular songs, which we'll no doubt get around to later. For now, we're cherry picking, and we can't wait to share the pieces with you.

Please check the Barefoot Chamber Concerts website for the Covid protocol near the date of the concert! As of right now, 11/26/21, Barefoot Chamber Concerts will require masks, proof of vaccination, and maintaining 6' distance between parties.

$20.
