The latest record by one of the South Bay's hardest working emcees, Jeff Turner's "Beautiful Mess," is an excellently produced, emotive album. On the title cut, Turner talks about embracing his flaws, saying that he is "a beautiful mess." Like all his songs, the beats are moody, and his flow is quick and animated, though his strongest point is his candor--and he seems to know it: "Do I share too much?/Fuck no/I'm just getting started/I ain't said enough." He doesn't just tell the listener the inner workings of his heart and mind, he does so with confidence, openness and vulnerability, and generally with a positive spin.
