The Bay Area's favorite trumpet player returns to the Firehouse Arts Center in Pleasanton to celebrate the spirit of New Orleans with an exhilarating birthday tribute to the legendary Louis Armstrong. Jeff Bordes will lead a swinging evening filled with the sounds of Satchmo.
Along with a stage full of special guests, "A Birthday Tribute to Louis Armstrong" will feature popular country/blues vocalist and guitarist Rudy Parris as the voice of Louis Armstrong. Rudy is best known for his television appearances on NBC's The Voice, as a Team Blake (Shelton) member, which brought him into the homes of millions of viewers.
Raised in Pleasanton, Jeff Bordes has become a fan favorite at venues around the Bay Area, and particularly with audiences at the Firehouse Arts Center since its opening, where he regularly sells out his performances. Bordes leads his own six-piece ensemble and often performs with touring groups of all styles, including Josh Ritter, Beats Antique, and The Heather Combs Band.
The incomparable Dizzy Gillespie was a noted mentor, and Jeff did a Japan concert tour with Dizzy prior to entering Berklee College of Music for his "formal" music education. During his career, Bordes has both performed live and done recording projects with such esteemed artists as Jon Faddis, Richie Cole, David Garibaldi, Karl Denson, Sugarhill Gang, Dana Carvey and John Mellencamp.
In the past ten years or so, Jeff notes that he has turned to the sounds of New Orleans for inspiration, and the Firehouse show is a big celebration of all that wonderful Louisiana heat and soul. Songs on tap run the gamut, from "Mack The Knife" to "Ain't Misbehavin'," and from "What a Wonderful World" to "Basin Street Blues," and beyond. "The audience will be dancing in the aisles," smiles Bordes.
