Jim Nichols has been a part of the jazz guitar scene for over four decades. He has performed or recorded with artists such as Joe Pass, Toots Thielemans, Buddy Montgomery, Chet Atkins, Art Pepper, Julio Iglesias, Hubert Laws, Della Reese, Martin Taylor, Van Morrison, Kenny Rankin, and Tom Waits. He has an unusual approach to the guitar, using a thumbpick and fingers to play everything from Chet Atkins-style to modern jazz. He has taught clinics in the U.S. and in Europe, including the Stanford and Jamie Aebersold Jazz Workshops.
Joining Nichols will be Ruth Davies, bass, and David Rokeach, drums. Davies toured with Charles Brown for 10 years and has recorded with such musicians as Van Morrison, Bonnie Raitt, and John Lee Hooker. Rokeach, a long-time Bay Area resident, has worked primarily in the San Francisco and Los Angeles areas for more than 20 years, but toured nationally and internationally with Ray Charles from 1990-91.
Mule Design Studio occupies the former site of Emerald Tablet, the creativity salon operating from 2011-15.
