PLAYS HERBIE HANCOCK'S MAIDEN VOYAGE
Pianist and composer Peter Horvath returns to Hotplate with his tribute to one of his primary influences, Herbie Hancock, with this performance honoring Hancock's 1965 Blue Note masterwork Maiden Voyage. Horvath's appearance marks 12 years, almost to the day, of his first Hotplate tribute to Hancock back in 2010.
A native of Budapest, Horvath has been part of the Bay Area scene since the 1980s and has been a first-call session player since his arrival, touring with R&B and fusion artists including Victor Bailey and Lalah Hathaway as well as working as a straight-ahead jazz pianist with Joe Henderson, Bobby Hutcherson, and Eddie Henderson. His newest album, Absolute Reality, is his first release as a leader in 20 years, and features appearances by saxophonist Bob Mintzer, trumpeter Randy Brecker, and drummer Lenny White.

Contemporary jazz pianist, keyboardist and composer Peter Horvath performs with his dynamic trio featuring Jeff Chambers on bass and Jason Lewis at the drums. The trio play Peter's original compositions, along with arrangements of the standards.
Peter Horvath has been perfecting his craft since the age of six. He attended the Bela Bartok Conservatory of Music in his native Hungary, then attended the Vienna Conservatory of Music. He moved to the United States in 1983, where he studied at the Berklee College of Music. He has since performed and recorded with a long line of world-class artists. ?Peter is currently on faculty at the California Jazz Conservatory, Saint Mary's College of California and Stanford Jazz Consortium.
