The Mill Valley Chamber Music Society presents the award-winning Jasper String Quartet with a program featuring their commission of String Quartet No. 3 "River," by Pulitzer Prize-winning composer Aaron Jay Kernis.
Hailed as "powerful" by the New York Times and “sonically delightful and expressively compelling” by The Strad, the Philadelphia based Jasper String Quartet features violinists J. Freivogel and Sae Chonabayashi, violist Sam Quintal, and cellist Rachel Henderson Freivogel. The Jasper String Quartet impresses critics and audiences with innovative programming and electrifying performances.
Formed at Oberlin Conservatory, the Jasper String Quartet began its professional career in 2006 while serving as Rice University’s graduate quartet-in-residence. The quartet is the winner of the 2012 CMA Cleveland Quartet Award; grand prize winner of the 2008 Plowman Chamber Music Competition and the 2008 Coleman Competition; first prize winner at Chamber Music Yellow Springs 2008; and silver medalist at both the 2008 and 2009 Fischoff Chamber Music Competitions.
