Mirus Gallery presents a solo exhibition with Jan Kaláb opening Friday May 18, 7-10pm. Jan Kalab is one of the earliest graffiti writers to come out of Czechoslovakia. He is seen as a pioneer due to the fact that there was no graffiti under the Iron Curtain, as it originated and moved throughout the western world. Kalab he spent much of his youth in train yards, writing under the name Cakes. He eventually graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague. In 2007, he entered the studio where his work developed to primarily abstraction. Kalab creates canvases of circles and organic shapes, under the continuous study of “depth, time, and motion” Layers of gradient colors give his paintings the impression of a sculptural like extension. This event is FREE and open to the public.
