JAMBAR Presents Joe Lovano Trio Fascination

SEE EVENT DETAILS
Joe Lovano will be the first artist to kick off the brand new JAMBAR Presents concert series at the California Jazz Conservatory. What a way to launch this new exciting series!

"The name 'Trio Fascination' comes from my fascination in exploring music in a trio format with bass and drums. It has some deep roots within my recorded catalogue, starting with 'Sounds of Joy' featuring Anthony Cox on bass and Ed Blackwell on drums for Enja Records and 'Trio Fascination' for Blue Note Records with Dave Holland on bass and Elvin Jones on drums. The concerts for the California Jazz Conservatory on March 4th & 5th will feature the Dean of Instruction, Jeff Denson on bass and faculty member Gerald Cleaver on drums, with whom I've toured and recorded. Come and dig the inspired sounds and feelings we're going to create." - Joe Lovano

Lovano first employed the name Trio Fascination as the title of his powerhouse 1998 Blue Note session including bassist Dave Holland and drummer Elvin Jones -- a true summit meeting of three of the greatest masters on their respective instruments in jazz history. Lovano clearly chose the name in reference to his fascination with the freewheeling potential of the format, emphasized further when the saxophonist employed it again for 2000's Flights of Fancy: Trio Fascination Edition Two, exploring the dynamic makeup of four widely divergent trios including one with bassist Cameron Brown and drummer Idris Muhammad, one with saxophonist Billy Drewes and drummer Joey Baron, another with harmonica genius Toots Thielemans and pianist Kenny Werner, and finally with trumpeter Dave Douglas and bassist Mark Dresser.

For the new lineup of Trio Fascination assembled especially for the JAMBAR Presents series, Joe will be performing with CJC Dean of Instruction, bassist Jeff Denson and CJC Chair of the drum department, drummer Gerald Cleaver.
