J. Cole with 21 Savage: The Off-Season Tour

SEE EVENT DETAILS
J. Cole with 21 Savage, Druski, and Morray: The Off-Season Tour

In 2013, rapper J. Cole released his second studio album, Born Sinner, and backed it with his What Dreams May Come tour. Like 2011's Cole World: The Sideline Story, his debut album, Born Sinner hit No. 1 on the U.S. album chart. Cole, whose full name is Jermaine Cole, first got wide recognition for his 2007 mixtape The Come Up, which caught the ear of Jay-Z and eventually led to Cole's signing by Roc Nation. Cole -- who was born on an Army base in Germany but was raised in North Carolina -- has since released a string of hit singles including "Work Out," "Power Trip," and "Nobody's Perfect." He built his loyal fan base by releasing a string of sought-after mixtapes and EPs, and also by being one of relatively few hip hop artists who tour regularly. All of the stage time has made Cole a confident performer who makes putting on a good show a priority, which keeps fans buying tickets again and again.

In an era saturated with upstart MCs all vying for the coveted status of "next big thing", the story of 30-year old North Carolina native J. Cole (born Jermaine Cole) is a refreshing exception to the quick route for fame and success. The first artist signed to Jay-Z's Roc Nation label, Cole made himself notable through a scholarly approach to the game - no small feat considering his Magna Cum Laude distinction upon graduating from St. John's University.

If his sudden christening by JAY-Z shocked the haters, their doubts were quickly refuted when J. Cole dropped his recent mix tape The Warm Up, as well as a coveted guest verse on JAY-Z's Blueprint 3 with "A Star is Born." Soulful and strong, J. Cole's lyrics touch on everything from his upbringing in North Carolina to the poverty and hopelessness that affect his community. The mix tape encapsulates not just who J. Cole is as a rapper, but who he is as an artist and a person.

Born in the U.K. to parents of Dominican and Haitian heritage, the artist otherwise known as Shéyaa Bin Abraham-Joseph came to Atlanta as a child and endured a harsh education. But music created another path for 21 Savage, whose freestyle skills soon made him a standout in the city's underground hip-hop scene.

After his first mixtape efforts began earning him wider attention in 2015, a spot on XXL's Freshman Class for 2016 and a collaborative EP with local producer Metro Boomin called 'Savage Mode' led to a breakthrough. The smash success of "X" (featuring Future) led to a deal with Epic and the release of his first full-length album in 2017. The artist's fierce energy and dexterous flow helped send 'Issa Album' straight to No. 2. He attracted more critical acclaim and chart action the same year with 'Without Warning,' a collaborative studio album with Offset and Metro Boomin.

Though 21 Savage would also find fruitful creative partnerships with Cardi B on "Bartier Cardi" and Drake on "Sneakin'," he scored his biggest hit to date by teaming with Post Malone on "Rockstar." His raw and intense performances on his spring and summer tours supporting Post Malone were further proof of the onstage prowess he displayed on his own Issa Music and Numb the Pain tours.

21 Savage is on tour in 2019 for his newly-minted gold album "I Am > I Was". He is touring with one of hip-hop's brightest stars, DaBaby.
