IRIE! is a monthly series dedicated to reggae and related music genres, hosted by Ashkenaz.
Jah Sun is a distinguished reggae artist whose message of hope has captivated audiences worldwide. Drawing inspiration from an eclectic mix of musical styles, he aspires to awaken in his audiences the desire to meet the challenges of life, and to live to their ultimate potential. Jah Sun's upbeat, hopeful view of life first emerged during his childhood. Growing up in a bicultural family gave him a unique perspective not only on life but also on music. Jah Sun makes music that strikes for its uncommon consistency: inspirational lyrics, dreamy melodies, and atmospheric textures, as well as direct beats that really drive the vision forward. Throughout the years, he's had the opportunity to travel all across the world extensively, playing his songs for people of all walks of life and meeting new cultures that eventually went on to impact his music style.

DJ Sep is the founder, promoter, and main resident at Dub Mission, one of the longest-running reggae parties in the world (since 1996). Voted Bay Area's Best Reggae Club five times in six years, Dub Mission has featured international artists like The Scientist, Mad Professor & the Ariwa Sound System, Mungo's Hi Fi with Soom T and Solo Banton, Adrian Sherwood & the ON-U Sound System, Tippa Irie, Prince Fatty, DJ Vadim and many others. For 22 years, Sep was also on Bay Area radio: first on the highly-influential college station, KUSF (now KXSF), and later at Berkeley's public radio station, KPFA. Sep has won a Goldie Award (Bay Guardian) and been nominated for Best DJ (SF Weekly Music Awards). She has spun in London, Vancouver, Tijuana, New York, Washington DC, Miami, Portland, Seattle, and Los Angeles and has opened for and shared the bill with Sly & Robbie, Lee "Scratch" Perry, The Wailers, Toots & The Maytals, Kruder & Dorfmeister, Culture, Akae Beka, Big Youth, Quantic, Les Nubians, Rachid Taha, Kinky, and many others.
