'Invisible String' by Leah Tumerman: Opening Reception

SEE EVENT DETAILS
Four Barrel Coffee and The Mill are pleased to present 'Invisible String' by Leah Tumerman. From a studio space in Oakland, Leah Tumerman carves out narrative scenes on canvas, taking cues from intuitively applied under-paintings. Working predominately with highly pigmented acrylics, Leah watches for the emergence of figurative subject matter and then edits, often utilizing drawing materials, towards an oblique finish. She revels in the implied relationship between forms based on physical posture and placement alone. Using playful symbolism and a touch of make believe, the finishing details speak to notions of sisterhood and communalism, but also whisper of loneliness. Leah explores female identity and strives to create poetic scenarios of connection and inclusion. Join us on Thursday, May 11th from 6-8pm for the opening reception of this exhibition of new work. Drinks will be served and the artist will be in attendance.

Leah has a BFA from Belmont University in Nashville, Tennessee and an MFAW from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago, where her focus was hybridity: narrative works of text and image. Outside of the studio, Leah paints murals on both private and public commission. She is also quite happy baking a cake. See her work online at leahtumerman.com and on social media @leahtumerman.

The Mill is a cafe and bakery that has been supporting artists with exhibitions since 2013. This exhibition is free and open to the public. The Mill is located at 736 Divisadero St., and is open from 7am until 7pm on Tuesday, and from 7am until 9pm each other day.
