Learn both the ancient and oh-so-modern art of indigo and shibori dyeing techniques with textile designer Kami Shallenberger of KAMMA TEXTILES! We’ll spend a leisurely afternoon slowing down and embracing the magical and natural process of hand dying textiles using pre-reduced indigo. We’ll explore several different Japanese shibori techniques, such as folded, twisted, tied, bunched, and bound resist styles that will result in unique and varied patterns and designs. You’ll create four beautiful 100% cotton tea towels of your own design, which can be used interchangeably as a set of mismatched napkins or hand towels for your kitchen or bathroom. We hope you’ll leave the workshop inspired to create more gorgeous indigo pieces of your own after discovering the knowledge and confidence to explore this rewarding craft on your own! Please wear comfortable clothing that you don’t mind getting dirty! We will provide aprons.
Materials: dye kit (shibori tools, gloves, and four tea towels measuring 22x22”)
This workshop will be on Sunday September 10th from 1-4pm at the LPP Workshop (855 Valencia Street). Light snacks and drinks will be provided. Limited to 6 students.
