Intro to Improv - Rediscover Your Sense of Play

This class is for all skill levels.
Improv helps people:- Listen and be present- Tap into creativity- Relieve anxiety/stress and release tension- Be better communicators- Celebrate making mistakes and be more resilient- Gracefully deal with uncertainty- Make your partners look good and collaborate more effectively
YES AND in addition to being useful, improv is fun! 
Who Should Attend:Anyone who wants to try improv, play games and have fun!
What kinds of people are in class? All sorts of people, including: - Directors and writers looking for a creativity boost- Actors who want to be more in the moment and flexible on set- Developers / Engineers who want to work on communication and listening skills- Founders and executives - Designers- Product Managers- Teachers, thearapists, health and wellness professionals- all kinds of people from all walks of life attend!
Our Mission:- spread the joy of improv to underrepresented groups and to people who haven't had the opportunity to explore who they are and relate to others through play- help people realize that they are storytellers- help people get back in touch with their natural presence- share knowledge, techniques and tools to sharpen storytelling skills, build confidence and build resilience
Class Agenda:- 3:30 - 4 pm: joyful games to warm up spontaneity, being kind to ourselves and celebrating mistakes- 4:00 pm - 4:45 pm: setting intentions, breath and physical warmup and imagination exercises- 4:45 pm - 5 pm: bathroom break- 5 pm - 6:30 pm: main improv lessons of the day- 6:30 pm - 7:30 pm: Performance Games and Scene-work that integrate lessons learned
Location Note: We're in "the grotto" (i.e. the lower level) of Sports Basement Bryant St. Just ask a Sports Basement employee for help if you have trouble finding the class space.When to Arrive:Arrive at 3:20-3:25 pm so we can begin class at 3:30 pm.
What to Bring:A full water bottle. A Notebook and a pen or pencil.
What to Wear:Workout clothing (t-shirts, pants, tennis shoes).Business casual is also fine but be sure that you have shoes are comfortable and that you can move in.
Class Cost:$30 per person.Payment types accepted:- Venmo: @jaredpolivka- PayPal: [email protected] (select friends and family transfer)- Cash
*Note:Normally, this improv workshop would cost $60+ per person.We're charging $30 (half market price) to keep this class affordable/accessible to our community.

About the Teachers: Erica and JaredErica AndersonNaturally curious and a bit zany. Erica was born and raised, passionate about acting. Erica’s passion for acting, transitioned into a mutual love for improv and producing comedic YouTube videos, during, her mid-twenties life crisis.
Erica is a graduate of BATS improv and Upright Citizen Brigade; and trains weekly with, improvisor, Tim Orr. Erica is involved in an all-women’s improv troupe - Smarty Pants. Erica is deeply inspired to spread the joy of improv to help others discover the masterful storyteller that they are.
Jared PolivkaJared previously served thousands of students around the world as Director of the School of AI at Udacity.com. With a background in product, design thinking, developer evangelism, storytelling and improvisation, Jared has found that improv skills are incredibly useful in acting, storytelling, personal life and organizations dealing with uncertainty and change.
Jared is a graduate of BATS Improv Theatre, the American Conservatory Theatre and Berkeley Repertory Theatre. Jared currently trains improv with Tim Orr and acting with Richard Seyd and with Stan Roth. Jared's mission is make great art and serve others while living a light-hearted, present, loving, empathetic, kind and responsible life.
