From the organizers of San Francisco Design Week, DESIGN PALO ALTO debuts as an annual celebration of designers, architects, and creative practitioners in Palo Alto. The best of local design will be explored through talks and tours led by top experts over three days.
Highlights:
OPENING NIGHT: The Art of Storytelling Through Design with SABRA BALLON: Join the kick-off event at Arhaus' new showroom in Palo Alto, where Sabra showcases how design tells stories through cultural elements, personal narratives, and artistic expression.
Dynamic Minds, Leading Architects: DIANE DORRANS SAEKS leads an insightful visit to two award-winning architecture firms.
FIELD ARCHITECTURE: Meet Principal JESS FIELD, tour the studio, and view new residential projects across Big Sur and Sonoma. Field will discuss creativity and collaboration in architecture.
FERGUS GARBER ARCHITECTS (FGA) + NorthWall Builders: Meet GINA DIXON and KRISTEN LOMAX, tour their studio, and discover their unique approach to timeless residential design. They will highlight the role of collaborations, with a conversation featuring NorthWall Builders and local community engagement.
TAKASHI YANAI + ZAHID SARDAR in Conversation:
"Komorebi: Japanese Culture's Imprint on Modernist Architecture" - Architect TAKASHI YANAI and critic ZAHID SARDAR discuss the Japanese concept of "Komorebi," and its influence on Yanai's work.
EICHLER HOME TOUR & TALK:
"People in Glass Houses: The Legacy of Joseph Eichler" - MONIQUE ANTON and TIFFANY TRUONG lead a tour of a rare two-story Eichler home. They will delve into the history of Eichler architecture, its social impact, and KEYCON's role in updating it for modern needs while preserving its original features.
STANFORD D.SCHOOL'S LITERARY FESTIVAL:
A celebration of design literature, featuring d.school's design book series, and open to all during Stanford's homecoming weekend.
