"In The Between" by Rénee DeCarlo: Opening Reception

SEE EVENT DETAILS
Four Barrel Coffee and The Mill are pleased to present 'In The Between' by Renée DeCarlo. Abstract, colorful, and lively, Renée’s work is imbued with elements that reflect the world around her: wires, cracks, evolving skylines, layers of life and people, and the shared spaces between each. These concepts appear in her paintings as patterns, lines, shapes, and colors, carefully organized and presented as the result of a thoughtful and strategic process that involves elements of both drawing and printmaking. Renée’s works begin with a form of life drawing, wherein she makes marks evocative of bumps in the road, turbulence in the airplane, and the chaotic patterns of movement by people and crowds. Using these drawings as a point of departure, Renée pursues a complex journey filled with many layers of mark-making and shape defining-and-redefining through color. This path toes the line between the boundaries of order and chaos, and the process is charged with spontaneity and impulse. Renée’s exciting challenge is controlling the pace of progress and determining the point at which to end the process and call a piece complete.

Renée DeCarlo (b. 1972) is an abstract painter and process based artist. Originally from the Northwest, Renée has lived all across the US over the course of her life. She holds an MFA in Ceramic Sculpture from the University of Oregon, though has worked primarily in drawing since 2000. Renée has exhibited her work in galleries, museums and art fairs across the United States over the past 10 years, including Spectrum San Diego and Miami. In 2018, she was invited to create a mural at the SalesForce Transit Center, and has a number of large works in the newly built Sutter Health Cathedral Hills Hospital. Renée participated in the StartUp Art Fair in 2017 and has been exhibiting her work primarily in San Francisco for over the past 15 years. This fall, Renée opened her own studio/exhibition space in the Mission District called The Drawing Room.

'In The Between' runs from January 17th through March 12th at The Mill in San Francisco. Join us on Friday January 18th from 6-8pm for the opening reception. Drinks will be served and the artist will be in attendance.
