Galería de la Raza is proud to present, In Outer Space: A Cultural Time Capsule, an exhibition that celebrates the cultural legacy witnessed at our historic 24th Street site. For 48 years, the site where we have since been displaced, was our "Mother Board" a place of infinite creativity where risk-taking cultural endeavors formed new frontiers and defined Xicanx/Latinx aesthetics locally, nationally, and abroad.
This exhibition is on view at City Hall, District 9 Office Room 279
Opening Reception: Thurs. May 2nd at 4:30PM - 6:30PM
On view are works by: Jesus Barraza, Enrique Chagoya, Papo Colo, Lenny Correa, Sam Cortez, Vanessa Espinoza, Ana Teresa Fernandez, Eric Garcia, Rupert Garcia, Lorraine García-Nakata, Louie "the Foot" Gonzales, Ester Hernández, John Jota Leaños, Carmen Lomas Garza, Ralph Maradiaga, José Montoya, Julio César Morales, Manuel Paul, Irene Perez, Chris Robertson, Artemio Rodriguez, Jessica Sabogal, Julio Salgado, Shizu Saldamando, Anthony Sul, Sergio De La Torre, Lexx Valdez, René Yañez, and Erin Yoshi. This time capsule is a tribute to those that have contributed their art and vision to the social movements of the Mission District and beyond. This is but a fragment of work that represents these contributions and is not a complete and comprehensive exhibition. There are many more who have dedicated their lives and work to the pursuit of justice through art within our community, and if we were to present an exhibition, City Hall would be covered in art.
