Confident, Calm and Connected: Improv as a Mindfulness Practice
To do your best on stage—and in life—you need nimble flexibility, well-tuned focus, and an open-hearted presence. Making improv a mindfulness practice—paying attention to the present moment with curiosity and kindness—develops these qualities even further.
In this four-week course, you’ll learn to:
· train the “puppy mind”
· turn off autopilot and turn on a fuller range of expression
· transform your relationship to thoughts and feelings—from hardened facts to ever-changing events
· choose from a range of nuanced responses rather than relying on hair-trigger reactions
Traditional and non-traditional mindfulness practices will build this awareness. Improv exercises and scene work will let us experience firsthand the skills we’re exploring—and to laugh while doing it.
Please note: requires F3 level training or permission of the instructor.
Ted DesMaisons has performed and taught improvisation internationally. He is a trained mindfulness instructor whose first book, “Playful Mindfulness” will come out in Spring of 2019. Ted also co-hosts the “Monster Baby” podcast, “a curious romp through the worlds of mindfulness and improvisation.”
