MiDNiTES FOR MANiACS presents
Friday, October 30th, 2015 @ The Castro Theatre
"I'M YOUR BOYFRiEND NOW: A Genuine Tribute to Wes Craven R.I.P."
(Admission is $12 for the entire evening.)

7:20pm - SCREAM (1996)
Written by Kevin Williamson; Directed by Wes Craven
Cinematography by Mark Irwin
Containing: Drew Barrymore, Neve Campbell, David Arquette, Courteney Cox, Matthew Lillard, Rose McGowan, Skeet Ulrich, Jamie Kennedy

Screenwriter Kevin Williamson (DAWSON'S CREEK) resuscitated the modern Horror film with this seminal 1990s (R-Rated!) shriek-fest that is easily one of the greatest homages to the most disrespected genre in cinema. Wes Craven's masterful direction deliciously carved out yet another defining maniac to the history of film, while at the same time creating relatable victims that you actually root for. Anyone who grew up in the aisles of video stores, made nachos for their living room "all-movie-nighters" and we're proud to talk on a cordless telephone need to come out (to the greatest movie theatre in the country) to genuinely celebrate Wes Craven's entire career. Beautiful Widescreen 35mm Print courtesy of Park Circus. 111 minutes. RATED R for strong graphic horror violence and gore, and for language. Preceded by a slab of early 1980s Stalker 35mm trailers to make you feel smarter during the feature.

9:45pm - WES CRAVEN'S NEW NiGHTMARE (1994)
Written & Directed by Wes Craven
Cinematography by Mark Irwin
Containing: Wes Craven, Heather Langenkamp, Robert Englund, Miko Hughes, Robert Shaye, John Saxon

Wes Craven's meta-masterpiece is one of the 1990s most underrated and overlooked films. With the entire cast of the original A NiGHTMARE ON ELM STREET (1984) returning to play themselves, Wes Craven dives deep into the darkness of post-modern folklore. This terrifying, existential narrative profoundly explores not only the immense cultural attraction of maniacs like Freddy Kruger (this entry is technically the seventh in the franchise), but stunningly uncovers an age-old terror that seems to still stifle many cinephiles from taking Horror films as serious art or from even watching them altogether. With stunning SFX and Heather Langenkamp giving the performance of her lifetime, pay close attention to the madness of Robert Englund here; he's gonna creep under your skin yet again. Bring your anti-horror, literary friends who can't deal with "all the gore in those movies" and prepare them to be schooled (along with the rest of us) by the Horror maestro, Wes Craven. Beautiful 35mm Print courtesy of Warner Brothers. 112 minutes. RATED R for explicit horror violence and gore, and for language. Preceded by a slew of 35mm Craven curiosities.
