Ikebana - Art of Japanese-Zen Flower Arranging

The Monterey Museum of Art presents for the first time, a daily lecture series in concert with the first annual Art in Bloom floral exhibition.

Ryan Flagg is a long-time student of the art of Japanese-Zen flower arranging. Ikebana is a style of flower arrangement that the Japanese developed and have appreciated for centuries. During his presentation, Ryan will demonstrate the rules of Ikebana design that began 550 years ago with observations of nature and the manner in which plants grow. He was first inspired by his sensei Shuji Ikeda’s works represented in the de Young Museum’s Bouquets to Art. Ryan has served on the non-profit Board as 2nd Vice President / Membership Chairman / Publicity Chairman of Ikebana International Monterey Bay Chapter 231 (I.I.M.B.C.).
